Adell Doby Brown Means was born to the late Will and Fannie Doby, on May 22, 1925, in Alachua County, Florida. She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Mt. Nebo Methodist Church in Alachua, Florida. Later she converted to Second Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church where she served as Deaconess, Secretary, and a faithful Mother of the church.
She worked as a homemaker, school bus driver, and foster parent for over thirty years. She also served as a member of the Farmers Aid Benefit Association and the Female Protective Society.
Mrs. Means was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Henry Mean and four children.
Precious memories will be cherished forever in the hearts and minds of her survivors: her children, Della Mae Ross, Theodore Bernard Brown, Jr. (Mary), Fredrick Harold Brown, Sr. (Josephine), all of Alachua, FL, Wayne “Sonny” Means ( Danielle) of Valdosta, GA, Jerry Tucker, Patricia Wiggins, both of Archer, FL, Brenda Phillip (Bernard) of Gainesville, FL; grandchildren she raised, Shedrick Brown Sr., Charles Brown, Patricia Baker, and Roger Young, Jr.; sister-in-law, Emma Wade of Archer, FL; brother-in-law, Gilbert Means (Jerri) of Gainesville, FL; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and sorrowing friends.
