Bobby Hampton Obituary

Bobby Louis Hampton was born at his family’s home on Wednesday, March 23, 1949, to the late Gary and Catherine (Frye) Hampton in Lawtey, FL where he was raised.

He graduated from Robinson Jenkins Ellerson High School in Starke, FL in 1968. Upon completing high school Bobby joined the United States Army and served in Vietnam. After returning home, he briefly attended Santa Fe College.

On August 21, 1971, Bobby married Linda Yvonne Tyson.Their union expanded almost 53 years. They were blessed with four children, Kim (Aaron) Paige, Katina Hampton, Keisha (Enoch) Epps, and Rashay Miller-Hampton. Bobby’s family grew when he and his wife were blessed with four grandchildren: Simone Hudson, Shayne Davis, Sierra Paige, and Malachi Epps.

Bobby accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age and immediately began serving at St. John Missionary Baptist Church. He served as a Deacon for over 30 years and took pride in taking care of the physical building and grounds. It was Bobby’s pleasure to serve all those who attended or visited. His favorite hymnal was Hymn 454 A Charge to Keep I Have.

Bobby worked at the University of Florida for 34 years. After retirement, to stay busy he worked for the Bradford County School System for 17 years. He was a jack of all trades and youcould often find him doing odd jobs for various people in Bradford and Alachua County. For many years, he enjoyed gardening and selling vegetables. In his later years, he enjoyed relaxing in his recliner and his daily adventure was riding the lawn mower. He always enjoyed a good home cooked meal, grilling for his family, capturing special moments with his disposable cameras, watching sports (Go Gators! Go Tornados!), and listening to country music. Anyone who visited The Hampton Inn could hearhis radio playing Eagle Country 106.3. If you could not find Bobby around the house, he was likely walking, singing, and praying.

Bobby Louis Hampton, 75, peacefully entered into his rest at home on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.
