Carton Washington entered this world on April 13, 1973, in Alachua County to Philomel Cook and James L. Washington. He was the fourth child born to this union. He attended school at Alachua Elementary, Mebane Middle, and Santa Fe High School.
Carton was known to some as a husband, son, brother, and father, but his proudest name was “Papa.” Our brother, Carton, was always the life of the party and always was a joy to be around. He was known to family and friends as “Vern.” He could make you believe anything, even if you knew it wasn’t true. He also had a love for football. He helped take his high school football team to the state championship and win!
His memory lives on in the hearts of: his wife, Silvia Washington; son, Carton Washington, Jr., of Gainesville, FL; two brothers, Leonardo Washington (Leah) of Gainesville, FL, and Marvin Washington of Gainesville, FL; one sister, Jeanita Washington of Gainesville, FL; two beloved grandchildren, Carson and Choloee Washington, both of Gainesville, FL; and a host of aunts, nephews, and cousins.
