Clara M. Patterson age 97, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 20, 2022. Mrs. Patterson was preceded in death by her husband Marlin Patterson; parents Manley and Margarete Smith; brother James R Smith; sister Phyllis Gee; and survived by sister Charlyne Price of Merrillville,
IN. Mrs. Patterson, retired Postmaster, Portage, IN, moved to Florida with her husband in 1980 and resided in the Postmasters Retirement Village, Keystone Heights, FL. Mrs. Patterson was a former member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Portage, IN; a longtime member of the League of Postmasters; Past President and lifetime member of the American
Legion Auxiliary 100, Lake Station, IN; lifetime member of the VFW Post 1760, Portage, IN; President of the Portage Professional Women’s League; Past President of the Lake Butler and Keystone Heights Singles Club; and an active member of the Melose and Keystone Heights
Womans (THIS CORRECT SPELLING) Club. Mrs. Patterson, an accomplished pianist, played in a band, Community Church; the Keystone
Senior Center, and was requested at many events. She played a great honky-tonk. She also taught line dancing at the Shriners Club for many years. Most notable to all that knew her, she was a dedicated bridge player and lover of books. She loved travel and was a
coordinator for a travel agency. Her ports of call and destinations included Canada; Spain and
other European Countries; Africa; the Caribbean Islands; Hawaii; Alaska and many other destinations throughout the U.S.A.
Mrs. Patterson is survived by her son James M. Patterson (Sandy), of Portage, IN; Grandchildren Laurie Kircher, Lisa Spencer, Jami Lange (Pete); Great Grandchildren Shelly
Kircher, Mark Patterson, Christopher Spencer, Heida and Haley Houseman;
Great Great Grandchildren Shyla and Kyla Patterson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private viewing will be held at Phillip & Sons Mortuary, Melrose, FL on Friday, August 26, 2022 at 9:00 amfollowed by a graveside service at 10:30 am at the Keystone Cemetery, Keystone Heights, FL and reception immediately following
at the Melrose Womans (THIS IS CORRECT SPELLING) Club, 303 Pine Street, Melrose. In lieu of Flowers donations can be made to the Melrose Womans Club.
