A TIME TO BE BORN:
Deacon Buie was born on May 20, 1946, in Chiefland, Florida, to the late Albirther Newkirk Buie and Eddie Buie.
A TIME TO BE EDUCATED:
Leon attended the Levy County public school system. He was a football player for the Williston Vocational High School Tigers. Leon graduated from Williston Vocational High School, Class of 1969.
A TIME TO BE REBORN:
Leon Buie was baptized at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church, where he served faithfully.
A TIME TO WORK:
Leon's career spanned different trades. He started out as a truck driver for ET Usher. Then he moved on to a career at Georgia Pacific Lumber Yard for many years. Later he worked for Mid Florida Hauling in Lake Butler, Florida, for more than 20 years, retiring in 2008 as a local and long-haul truck driver when his health began to fail.
A TIME TO MARRY:
Leon and Betty Buie started dating in the early 70's and married on January 14, 1977. With a love that spanned over 50 years. Betty and Leon remained devoted to each other and their marriage
A TIME TO CHERISH HIS MEMORIES:
A loving and devoted wife, Betty Jean Wilcox Buie; children, Cassandra Buie Williams (Dwayne), Williston, FL, Andre Buie, Chiefland, FL, Valerie Buie, Ocala, FL, and Richard Buie (Melissa), Gainesville, FL; one bonus son, Michael Wilcox (Tina), Gainesville, FL; siblings, Eddie Jean Buie Williams, Chiefland, FL, and Ellic Buie, Jacksonville, FL; one nephew and two nieces, whom he was raised with as brother and sisters, Joan Nelson Hood, Edward Nelson II, and Belinda Nelson Chapman; and four sisters-in-law, Alice Griffin, Josephine Latson, Gloria Wilcox, and Heather "Ann" Shepherd (Dwayne).
Leon was preceded in death by one son, Edward Leonard Buie; seven siblings, James Edward Buie, John Buie, Ethorn Buie, Earl Buie, Frank Buie, Caretha Buie Nelson, and Will Buie; two bonus sons, Jerry Gamble and Andrew Levelle Wilcox-Davis; and four brothers-in-law, Richard Lee Williams, Edward A. Nelson, Willie James Goff, and Edgar Wilcox.
Leon leaves to mourn 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, his 101-year old great aunt, Mamie Lee Patterson, and a host of sorrowing cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
