Evelyn Delores Welcome was born on July 3, 1931, in Alachua, FL, to her loving parents, Sarah and Furman Brown. Evelyn was a lifelong resident of Alachua, where she attended and graduated from Alachua Training School (Class of 1948). Evelyn was a cafeteria worker within Alachua County where she retired after years. During early childhood through adulthood, she became a member of St. Matthews Baptist Church. She was known throughout the community for her love for people and her joy of others. On Tuesday, October 24, 2023, at her residence surrounded by her loving family and friends, she joined the innumerable hosts that await all of us on the other side.
She was preceded in her death by: her parents, Sarah and Furman Brown; husband, Theodore Welcome, Sr.; daughters, Barbara Britt and Connie Welcome; five sisters and two brothers, Pearl Murphy, Vera Floyd (Reedie B), Jeanette Moore (Albert) of Tampa, Josephine Brown, Catherine Terry (Freddie), Rudolph Brown and Milton Brown.
Evelyn leaves to cherish her memory: two loving children Gail Hubbard (Clifford), Superintendent Ted (Faylene) Welcome of Gainesville, FL; sisters, Annette Smith (Eddie) of Fayetteville, NC and Gladys Brown of High Spring, FL; special niece and nephew Carol Greenlee and Kent Filer, special cousins, Reatha Mae Gaskins of Gainesville, FL, Annette Johnson of Alachua, FL, devoted niece, Retha Bell Welch (Charles) of LaCrosse, FL; special friend, Colleen West of Gainesville, FL; 14 Grandchildren , 22 Great Grands, and 7 great-great grands, and a hosts of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
