HELEN JONES LEWIS was born on July 29, 1936, to her loving parents, Rosa Lee Hogan and George Jones, Sr., both of whom preceded her in death. Helen dedicated her life to what mattered most to her-her family. She didn't have much education, but her siblings would always come home teach her what they learned. She worked as a housekeeper before retiring. She was married at an early age to Mr. Lemon Lewis, Sr., who preceded her in death. She took great pride in supporting her children and being a steady and loving presence in their lives. She had a total of five kids, Willie Mae Jones, the late Richard Lewis, Delroice Lewis, William Lewis, and Gail M. Williams (Charles); sisters, Mary Hall (Edward) and Medea Davis; and brothers, Johnny Allen and William Allen who preceded her in death.
She poured her heart into nurturing her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her soul. She loved her grandchildren, Selvin Daniels, Bakari Sampson (Erin), Sjonda Williams, Charmaine Williams, Niecy Cooper, and seven additional grandkids. She also had two bonus sisters, Lillie Ruth Cook and Kathleen Kilpatrick; one bonus stepbrother, George Jones, Jr. (Jean); stepdaughter, Patia Lewis (Jerry); nephews, Bishop Timothy A. Davis (Tongela) and Juan Hall; nieces, Edwina Hall and Tory Hall; along with a host of other living relatives.
She found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved watching her favorite soap operas, spending long conversations talking and laughing with her sisters, and cooking soulful, home-cooked meals that brought everyone together. Known for her resourcefulness, she was proud of shopping on a budget and making the most of what she had, always ensuring her family was cared for.
Helen Lewis will be remembered for her caring spirit, nurturing heart, and unwavering dedication to her family.
Her love lives on through the generations she helped raise and the memories she created around her kitchen table.
