Howard T. Hayes

Howard Thomas Hayes, affectionately called “Smiley”, was the second born to the late Mr. & Mrs. Ralph & Pauline O’neal Hayes on September 01, 1946 in Putnam Hall, Fl.  Howard joined Abilene Baptist at an early age and completed 10th grade at Central Academy High School.  Smiley loved working with his brothers William, Raymond and James for approximately 30 years at Bobby Powers Construction.  Howard’s most affectionate nicknames were ‘Smiley’ and ‘Uncle Hot Sauce’. Uncle Hot Sauce enjoyed HIS FAMILY. He loved to eat all kinds of beans, and corn and his favorite addition to every meal was hot sauce. Howard’s favorite saying was “I’m gonna to kick your azz Boooooooooooy!” He loved reading comics, watching cowboy movies and working in the yard. He loved giving out money to his siblings, nieces, and nephews when he got paid. Howard Thomas Hayes passed away at his residence on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by his parents, his sisters Priscilla Hayes, Claretha Hayes Davis (Alfred, Sr.), Alice Mae Hayes Eubanks (Richard also deceased); Brothers James Joshua Hayes and Leroy Hayes, as well as his Sister in Law, Jeraldean Barton Hayes.

Mr. Hayes leaves to mourn his passing, three brothers William Hayes Sr. (Jennie Lee), Michael Hayes, Sr. (Eileen) and Raymond Hayes Sr., and one sister Marvella Hayes (Brian) Cliffin. Also, a large host of nieces and nephews. 

Smiley’s mourners also include many loving friends and neighbors over the years including one special friend his caregiver for many years, Diana ‘Diane’ Howard.
