CELEBRATION OF LIFE
Ivy Watson, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and pillar of the community, transitioned into the loving arms of God on August 9th, 2024. Born on January 22, 1932, Ivy was a beacon of love and kindness to all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of strength, wisdom, and grace.
WORK AND EDUCATION
After graduating Class of 1950 from Shell High School. Ivy dedicated her life to education, teaching at Douglas Elementary, Newberry Elementary, and Shell Elementary for over three decades. She earned her Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Elementary Education from The Great Bethune Cookman College in 1954. Her life as a Wildcat, in Daytona Beach, Florida, allowed her to be a part of living history, and exposed her to new, unforgettable experiences on, and off campus. Ivy was able to see, hear, walk and talk with Dr. Mary Mcleod Bethune almost every day.
Ivy continued her educational journey attending Edward Waters College and The University of Florida, obtaining various certifications. In 1973 Ivy earned her Master’s Degree in Elementary Education from
Florida A&M University.
LIFE REFLECTION
Ivy accepted Christ in her life at an early age and was a faithful and dedicated member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church in Hawthorne, FL for many years. Ivy was a respected figure in the Hawthorne community. Her home was always open to those in need, and her nurturing spirit touched the lives of many. To any child to cross her path she would express to them how important it was for them to go school and get their education. Frequently reminding them that “no one can take your education away”. Ivy loved the Lord
with ALL of her heart, and always found joy being surrounded by her family.
FAMILY
Preceded in death by her Mother Minnie Gooding McClain, Father Ivory Lorenzo Johnson, Daughters Bonnie Roberts and Joanna Lee.
Ivy’s Legacy continues on through: her daughters, Christina Watson and Ciera Watson, Grandchildren Dantrill Starke, Jermie Starke, Ivy Williams, Brandon Roberts,, Ashanti, Anara, Amali, Milo.
