Joseph Vaughn Baskin at the age of 74 died on Monday, October 24, 2022 after a short battle with cancer. He graduated from Lincoln High School and worked as a printer for the New York Times. He also worked for the Gainesville Sun for over 30 years. He loved his Florida Gators and watching any kind of sports, sitting outside reading books, and drinking his beer.
He is preceded in death by parents Edith Brown and Joseph Baskin Sr; sisters, Barbara Jean Baskin, and Joe’Ann Baskin; son, Alywin Brion Baskin; grandson, Stacy Remone Scott Jr., and lifetime friend, Alicestine Strong.
He leaves to cherish his memory: sister, Beatrice Council (Odale); mother-in-law, Nellie ruth Perry of Gainesville, FL; children, Joseph Jr. of Bushnell, FL, and Lamont Baskin of Jacksonville, FL, Marlissa Wilson of Greenwood, IN, Victoria Baskin of Maine; stepson, Stacy R Scott, two daughter-in-laws, Keisha Sumpter, Gainesville, FL and Ursula Pitts Baskin; Memphis, TN: son-in-law, Aaron Wilson Jr.; Lake City, FL; adopted daughter, Antionette Sandford (Ronald); Gainesville, FL. Childhood friend and brother-in-law, Fred Markham (Sandra), brother-in-law, Charles Perry (Dot) Tampa, FL; family friend, Patricia Harrison. 17 grands and 9 great grands and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.
