Joseph James Gainey was born on April 30th, 1967, in Gainesville, FL. His parents, James Samuel Gainey II and Merlinda Banks Gainey, and sister Tess Gainey-Wallace preceded him in death. On Saturday August 31st, 2024, Joseph entered his eternal home and is now at rest. He was a graduate of F.W. Buchholz High School, later furthering his education at Santa Fe Community College in Auto Mechanics in 1986. He worked various careers throughout his lifetime. He worked at the Shell Station as a mechanic. He worked at TacachaleCommunity of Excellence as a cottage parent. He worked at North Florida Regional Medical Center and Shands hospital as a Floor Teach. Joseph had a passion and love for cooking, welding and catering. He went on to open his business “Joe’s Barbecue & More”. His passion and integrity to those he loved was unwavering. His infectious smile and laugh will forever live on. Joseph married his loving and devoted wife Chinita Hamilton-Gainey on November 9th, 2007. Joseph learned about Christ at a very young age at Atlas AME Church, later joining Jerusalem Church of God by Faith in Monteocha. At the time of his passing, he was a faithful member of Destiny Church of God by Faith under the leadership of Pastor Steve Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Chinita Gainey, Gainesville, FL. Children: Nicholas Blue, Bobby Foster (Kristin), Joseph Bryan Gainey, Stephanie Gainey and Christopher Price, 22 Grandchildren, Sister- Sharon Bailey (Selvie), Brother- George Gainey Sr. (Daphne), Brother in laws- Todd Hamilton, David Townsend (La’Erika), Mother-in-law- Debra Brown (Leroy), God brother- Glen R. Banks.
He has a host of Uncles, Aunts, Nieces, Nephews, Great nieces, Great nephews, Cousins and Friends. Special Aunt & Uncle Glen Banks Jr. & Minister Patricia Banks.
