Murphy Lee Griffin was born on May 5, 1956 in Ft. White, Florida to the late Alberta McClain Washington and Andrew C. Griffin. He was one of 12 children. At an early age the family moved to Alachua, Florida and later to Gainesville, Florida and he returned back to reside in Alachua, Florida. He attended A.L. Mebane and Eastside High School in Gainesville, FL.
He worked for over 30+ years at Alachua General Hospital and Shands Hospital, where he retired from. He also worked for a brief time for Job Corp of Gainesville, FL.
On Tuesday, Oct 8, 2024, following a brief stay at Haven Hospice/E.T. York Care Center of Gainesville, Florida, Murphy left this earthly scene to join that innumerable host that awaits us all on the other side.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alberta McClain Washington and Andrew C. Griffin , as well as 3 brothers, Van E. Griffin, Warren Washington and Percy Jasper.
Those left to cherish Murphy’s memory are his children; Destini Jackson of Tampa, FL, Terrica Nelson-Jent of Gainesville, FL, Monica Williams of Gainesville, FL, Tramond Williams of Gainesville, FL, his 8 grandchildren, his siblings; Hattie Strawder Ausgood (Johnnie) of Archer, FL, Eva Strawder Pollard of Gainesville, FL, Alphonso McCray (Patricia) of Archer, FL, Carl E. Griffin (Dorothy) of Bronson, FL, Derrick Washington (Cathy) of Gainesville, FL, Samuel Washington of Gainesville, FL, Brenda Washington Sellers of Smyrna, GA, Rick Laster of Gainesville, FL, close friends, Erika McClain, Mike McCray, David Washington, Michael Aubrey, and Eddie Butler. A special nephew, Fabian Sellers. In addition to a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and sorrowing friends.
