Reverend Carlos Mandrell Obituary

Reverend Quintin “Carlo Mandrell

Carlos was born on June 6, 1963 in New Bern, North Carolina, the second of two children, to the late Edward Monroe Mandrell and the late Doris Simmons Mandrell. Carlos passed away peacefully at home in Gainesville, Florida on Monday, December 26, 2022 at the age of 59.

Carlos spent his early years in Kinston, North Carolina where his mother was a Black History school teacher. In 1981, he graduated from Kinston High School and went on to attend Fayetteville State University.

Carlos relocated to Florida in 1987.

Carlos worked for the State of Florida for 31 years, and retired in 2019 from the Department of Corrections. He worked for the City of Gainesville at the Martin Luther King Center (MLK), where he never met stranger or a young person he didn’t inspire. Carlos worked at the MLK Center for 13 years. While working there he simultaneously served as a mentor beyond the scope of his job title to the youth, made several life bonds with many people, and he always knew how to make everyone smile by a greeting or joke. He didn’t turn down a game of pickup basketball, catch up, or around the world.

After years of searching to find himself, he joined Mount Moriah Baptist Church, and it was there where he found his calling. He served as a Sunday school teacher for the adult class for many years. He was called to the ministry and ordained on May 18, 2003, and served as a minister under Reverend Dr. Freeman Gallmon. As life would have it, he was ordained as a Reverend on May 29, 2016, and he gladly accepted his calling to preach the gospel when called upon. Without a doubt, he was dedicated to his church and everyone he had encountered.

Carlos was a loving husband, father, grandfather, Godfather, and friend but above all he was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord with all his heart and soul. Carlos didn’t mind sharing the word of God to anyone who wanted to hear it, and the time or location was not an issue when it came to spreading the love and gospel of God.

He was united in Holy Matrimony to Sonya N. Robinson on June 17, 2006. Carlos and Sonya recently celebrated 16 years of marriage. A marriage that was truly ordained by God.

Carlos leaves to cherish his memories of life…
