The Bernard S. Phillip, II Scholarship Qualifications

The Bernard S. Phillip, II scholarship is dedicated to supporting the next generation of funeral service professionals. This scholarship is open to students who demonstrate a strong commitment to the field of mortuary science and meet the following criteria:

Eligibility Requirements:

  1. Residency or Enrollment:
    • Applicant must be currently enrolled in an accredited mortuary science program located in the state of Florida or Georgia.
  2. Program Type:
    • Must be pursuing one of the following:
      • An Associate of Science (A.S.) Degree in Funeral Service or Mortuary Science
      • A Funeral Director Certificate Program
  3. Enrollment Status:
    • Must be enrolled part-time or full-time and in good academic standing at the time of application.
  4. Commitment to the Profession:
    • Applicant should demonstrate a genuine interest in a career in funeral service through prior experience, personal statement, or recommendation.
  5. Application Materials Required:
    • Completed scholarship application
    • Proof of current enrollment in an eligible program
    • One letter of recommendation (academic or professional)
    • A brief personal statement (250–500 words) explaining your passion for funeral service and career goals

Additional Considerations:

  • 2 scholarships to be awarded at $1,500 each (FL / GA mortuary schools only)
  • Scholarships are awarded annually and are non-renewable; applicants may reapply each year they remain eligible.
  • Video introductions are encouraged, not required.
  • Applicants will be notified via the email address provided in the application. Awards will be made payable to the college of the named applicant.
